Kvetching about healthcare hysteria, Fake Presidential Medbeds, likely Russian drones, & antisemitism

Hey folks, Jon Liedtke here—your friendly neighborhood Jew and Samish aspiring mensch. The weekend has wrapped and its time for a kvetch.

Between dodging antisemitic landmines, mocking medbeds, and marveling at drone drama, my feed was a mix of fire & farce. Hope you’re sitting down because it’s time to break it all down.

Healthcare Hysteria: Don’t Let Myths Stack the Deck

Canada’s eternal headache is waiting for coffee at Tim’s and wait times for medical care. Yesterday I saw a CTV Windsor article with quotes from health advocates claiming that adding private healthcare providers somehow “stacks up” the public system, leaving the vulnerable in longer lines. “They can get wait times down really well because in the private clinics they pick and choose the easy stuff, the stuff that’s not risky. Meanwhile, somebody who has some more challenges … [is left] in the public system. So what it does is it stacks up the public system with even greater wait times.”

Ridiculous. That’s like saying toll roads make traffic worse on freeways. Adding options doesn’t clog the pipes; it eases the flow. Private providers pull resources—doctors, nurses, tech—into the mix without siphoning from the public pot. We’ve got data from places like Sweden and Australia showing hybrid models reduce overall delays. It’s not about abandoning the public system; it’s about expanding the table so everyone gets a seat sooner. If we’re serious about fixing this, let’s ditch the fearmongering and talk real solutions. We all deserve better than endless queues.

Fake Presidential Medbeds: Magic, Mayhem & Mystery

I’ve been laughing at the latest brain slop from President Trump, this time his posting of an AI-generated version of himself on Fox News, hawking a nonexistent “medbed card” for non-existent magical healing hospitals that sound ripped from a QAnon fever dream. It’s a straight up conspiracy play: promise the moon, deliver snake oil. Next up? Lightsabers for the MAGA faithful and a time-traveling DeLorean to rewrite the 2020 election.

It’s equally hilarious and horrifying. In an era where deepfakes blur reality, this is peak political theater. But let’s be real: it’s not just funny—it’s a warning. When leaders peddle fantasy over facts, trust erodes. We’ve got real issues—pandemics, climate change, global military conflicts—and America is wasting bandwidth on bad sci-fi. Wake up, America, you’re rapidly heading to the bad place

Drones & suspected Kremlin Chaos

A Norwegian airplane flying between Oslo and Bardufoss in Norway had to divert back home because they spotted a drone buzzing right into the no-fly zone, forcing the detour. My take? Likely Russian meddling—Kremlin-backed chaos agents who enjoy to play a game of airborne chicken, AKA sabotage with wings.

It’s high time for NATO to dust off the drone-hunter playbook and remind Moscow that the west has sharp teeth. These incursions are occurring too often, and it’s clear that the Kremlin is testing the west, both its ability to respond as well as its resolve.

We live in an increasingly unstable world and what today feels like a cold war could turn hot at a moment’s notice.

Calling Out Antisemitism, One Tweet at a Time

David Hogg, that March for Our Lives firebrand, dropped an antisemitic bomb yesterday: “AIPAC is the most successful foreign influence operation in US history.” Dude, framing an American lobby group like this? That’s not just opinion; it’s a dog whistle played on the radio and tuned to an old, ugly frequency.

AIPAC’s a U.S.-domestic outfit—funded by Americans, playing by the rules of the game. Critiquing their spending, goals, or tactics? Go for it; lobbyists gonna lobby. But slapping a “foreign operation” label on a group that’s predominantly Jewish-led? That’s the dual-loyalty trope my man—the same poison that’s painted us as external foreigners undermining the homeland for centuries, played on repeat. It’s the line between policy beef and an antisemitic echo chamber, and Hogg ran right past it.

Language matters, folks. Historically, antisemitism weaponizes this crap, turning legitimate gripes into violent myths. Critique the machine, not the “otherness” of the operators. Don’t drag in tropes that scream, “You’re not one of us.” It’s blatant antisemitism, and quite frankly it’s exhausting. But here’s the silver lining: in a world post-Oct. 7, more of us Jews are waking up and speaking out.

Not everyone is a Jew Hater, but there are too many who engage in Jew Hate, whether wittingly or not. And to the Jews reading this, stay proud. It’s not about being well-liked; it’s about being unapologetically us. Many Jews are realizing it now: be true to you, no one else gets to define you.

I’ve grilled PM Trudeau on antisemitism, turning pressers into accountability sessions. My commentary, my podcast, my questions—they’re my ecosystem, controlled by me, for you. Views are mine, provided free of charge.
