Blackburn News: Windsorites Favour Clinton, Wary Of Trump

[Blackburn News – Ricardo Veneza] Many people in Windsor are pulling for a Hillary Clinton victory over Donald Trump in the US presidential race — if a viewing party in the city is anything to go by.

The Water’s Edge Event Centre in Windsor had about 150 people take in the first US presidential debate on Monday night.

Dennis Hunkler was one of those in attendance. The dual Canadian and American citizen who now calls Windsor home is supporting Clinton and feels she was clearly the better of the two in the debate.

“She kept cool, she had nice sound mind, she was able to negotiate the facts and actually answer the questions,” says Hunkler.

As for his fellow Americans back home, Hunkler feels many of them watched the debate from a much more emotional point of view.

“There’s a lot of bad things that have been happening throughout the world and in the US,” says Hunkler. “I do hope that most Americans become rational as far as their voting goes this year.”

Many others in attendance seem to agree.

Katherine Korach from Windsor wasn’t impressed with Trump and felt Clinton looked more like a leader she’d like to see in charge of Canada’s southern neighbour.

“I felt he was very condescending to her through most of the debate and he was not listening,” says Korach. “Somebody has to be a listener with the temperament to work with other people to solve these problems.”

The event drew University of Windsor political science student Nik Prsa.

He wanted to see Clinton do well in the debate — but still felt Trump should have brought more to the table.

“I still wanted it to be a contest. I wanted Trump to be able to articulate some of his points,” says Prsa. “I think it was a really missed opportunity for him.”

Windsor’s Higher Limits cannabis lounge also held a viewing party for the debate, turning the night into a ‘toking’ game.

Election Day in the US is November 8.
