The majority of southern Ontario is under a snowfall warning and it’s caused school closures, half of the flights out of Toronto’s Pearson airport to be cancelled, and parts of the 401 entirely shut down.
Closer to home, while the snow certainly blanketed the city, it did not cause too many problems other than a few vehicle collisions.
“One thing I hate about this weather is the mess that it bring in here all the time,” commented Maiden Lane’s The Squirrel Cage owner John Ansell . “[With] the salt and mopping the floors six or seven times a day. I am constantly shoveling out there so [the snow isn’t] tracked it and so people aren’t slipping and falling … it’s constant.”
Downtown resident Leslie Jacobs doesn’t find the snow to be overwhelming, but admits that she prefers the warmth of summer. “The snow is nice and all, but I’d much rather it be warm and sunny; but then again, winter isn’t winter without snow.”
Ansell had thought that January and February would be slower than previous months had been, but was pleased with the steady traffic. “This is our first winter being open, so we didn’t know what to expect or have anything to compare it to. But we’ve been surprised at the traffic so far … but when it does snow like this, people tend to stick to their offices.”
