Windsor Police are requesting the help of the public in locating a hit-and-run suspect who struck a young girl while she was riding her bike at the intersection of Bernard and Seminole yesterday afternoon.
“A north-bound vehicle which crossed Seminole struck this young girl on her bicycle,” said Sgt. Matt D’Asti of The Windsor Police. “The impact sent her flying onto the hood and eventually she rolled off of the hood and fell onto the side of the road.”
The victim complained of injuries to her lower back, knees and ankles and after being attended to by both EMS and Windsor Fire and Rescue, she was sent to hospital by ambulance to undergo x-rays.
While D’Asti was unaware of the results of medical testing, his understanding is that her injuries were not considered to be serious in nature.
D’Asti explained that both the victim and a witness were able to provide a detailed account of both the vehicle and the driver.
While the model of vehicle is unknown, D’Asti explained that it was a new black vehicle with tinted windows and “some type of lighting apparatus that was flashing blue light from the grill”.
“The victim indicates that as she was on the hood she locked eyes with the driver, they stared momentarily, before she rolled off the hood of the car.” said D’Asti.
The suspect has been described as a black female with black curly hair that was somewhere in her mid-thirties.
“We expect that this vehicle could have some damages to the front grill and hood area, and we’re hoping that somebody who may have knowledge of a similar vehicle and a similar person who may have access to the vehicle will provide us with some information and call police and do the right thing,” said D’Asti.
While hit-and-run accidents aren’t overly common in Windsor, D’Asti did explain that when they happen it’s always a concern to police.
“You’re expected to stop and provide information to police whenever you’re involved in a motor vehicle collision, especially if you’re striking pedestrians or cyclists,” said D’Asti. “It’s a requirement under the Highway Traffic Act that you’re to remain and render assistance if it’s necessary and also provide your driving information and insurance for your vehicle upon demand of a police officer who would be investigating the accident.”
