Blackburn News: Police Comment On Cannabis Lounge

[Blackburn News – Adelle Loiselle] Windsor police are taking a hands-off approach to the city’s first cannabis vapour lounge.

Higher Limits on Ouellette Ave. seeks to create a safe space for both medicinal and recreational users of marijuana.

Co-owner Jon Liedtke says the establishment will also work to dispel myths and “correct narratives which exist surrounding cannabis.”

The use of recreational marijuana remains illegal in Canada but Constable Andrew Drouillard says unless there’s a complaint, there’s nothing police can do.

“Right now there is nothing criminal going on,” he says. “The people that are attending there are in rightful possession of marijuana. They have a license to hold, and as far as we know, there are no bylaws being infringed on at this point.”

If there is a complaint, Drouillard says police will investigate and lay criminal charges if warranted.

“Until we get a complaint that criminal activity, such as drug trafficking or some type of illegal possession is going on; that’s when we would get involved.”

The lounge is planning of an official grand opening on January 29.
