It’s time for us all to raise a glass to craft beer in Windsor.
Walkerville Brewery released its Easy Stout 365 on April 7 to coincide with National Beer Day — which commemorates the day the sale of beer became legal again in the United States in 1933.
“The style of beer is really important because you are trying to get a beer that won’t be overwhelmed by the bourbon in the barrel,” said Walkerville Brewery’s Ian Gourlay.
The Easy Stout 365 is a variation of the brewery’s Easy Stout which was aged in Jim Beam bourbon barrels for 365 days.
With an alcohol by volume of eight per cent, the stout has a bourbon-forward flavour with a smooth overall taste.
“The character of the beer is completely different,” Gourlay said.
“You’ll notice as soon as you put your nose to the glass you get the bourbon character and a hint of vanilla.”
Ten bourbon barrels were used to create the Easy Stout 365 and it’s available at the brewery in 500-millilitre and one-litre bottles while quantities last.
Craft Heads Collaboration
Downtown Windsor’s Craft Heads Brewing Company has collaborated with Toronto’s Indie Alehouse and Higher Limits to create some truly unique brews this month.
The “sharesies” with Indie Alehouse kicked off on Friday, April 8 and will include 12 Indie Alehouse beers, 12 Craft Heads’ beers and seven collaboration taps from the two breweries.
Craft Heads co-owner Bryan Datoc said the two breweries shared an instant bond over their love of creating “really flavourful ales.”
“It was really great to talk to a team so passionate about craft beer and doing things the right way,” Datoc said.
Some of the collaboration beers include an English bitter, Old English D, in honour of the Detroit Tigers and Strawberry Banana hefeweizen.
Craft Heads began sharing its taps with The Indie Alehouse on Friday and will offer the brews again on Saturday.
Later this month, on April 20, Craft Heads will be pouring a one-of-a-kind hemp beer called THC: The Tasty Hemp Concoction in partnership with Higher Limits.
The four per cent ABV beer is hempseed based but carries no tetrahydrocannabinol, the active agent in cannabis.
“We wanted to create something that brings everyone together,” Datoc said.
“It has a very nutty flavour and I think it’s something people will really enjoy.”
Feel the Bern
Motor Craft Ale’s ode to Bernie Sanders is officially up for grabs.
The Berner beer was created to commemorate Sanders’ win in the Michigan Primary over Hilary Clinton.
The maple walnut brown cream ale with habanero is available while quantities last at Motorburger/Motor Craft Ales at 888 Erie St. E.
